Location: Venue(Vancouver)
On Saturday Feb 21, Venue’s doors opened at 7:00 for rapper Omar Linx to headline along with openers J.Dohe, Tyler Skyy, and Minty Burns. Omar Linx, most known for his hip-hop approach to dubstep instrumentals, has built his success featuring on hit songs such as “Out For Blood” by Zeds Dead. Combinations of genres are not always easy to do well, but the fans proved that Omar can pull it off as he had the venue jumping before it was even 10:00.
Unfortunately, as it was an earlier show, the crowd count was low until around 9:00, but that didn’t stop the opening acts from doing their thing. All 3 did a great job on delivering a good time to the audience that was present. Minty Burns came through with the highlight, getting the audience more involved and staying on to perform next to Omar Linx.
When Omar hit the stage the night really kicked up a notch. Performing songs from his newer M.O.R album such as “Scatter Brain” and “Red Light Green Light” along with some of his oldies, he quickly had the fans into it. The sound quality for his set was decent, you could hear him well as he was rapping mostly over no backing tracks. As for the instrumental, the bass seemed to overpower the song, but for the genre of music it turned out well. About 5 songs in, groups in the crowd were already talking about a certain song as they anticipated the highlight of the night.
After a quick talk with the crowd, the intro to his most turn’t up song “Out For Blood” crept in, and the whole place went nuts. Now everybody knows that in dubstep music the most important part of the song is the drop, and it became very apparent in this performance in particular. Every single body in the place was jumping on the drop, and chanting out “I thought I told you” at the same time. It’s crazy just how powerful bass can be. Considering the early timing of the event on such a busy Saturday night, maybe the show would have been more packed if it was a bit later? That aside, everyone seemed to have a good time. Omar did a good job putting on solid show, no matter what the crowd count. I’m sure the fans look forward to having him back to Vancouver soon.
