On December 6, Fortune Sound Club had the pleasure to host Vancouver veterans
Prevail and Kyprios on their West Coast Renaissance Tour. Seeing them for the first
time, I can comfortably say that these artist’s performances were “exquisite”, the
same word Kyprios used to describe the fans that gathered for the show.

Upon arriving at the venue, about 60 people stood around the stage; Kyprios
was as energetic as he was inspiring, interacting with the audience and telling
stories about his lyrics and life, giving the crowd a chance to enjoy singing along,
and feeling related to him. Another really cool element was a fancy and beautiful girl who nailed the harmony vocals. In addition, he played a light-hearted remix of Canadian classics which was quite comical and finished up with a song on the banjo – it was pretty sweet and as catchy as all of his beats.
There was a noticeable change when Prevail jumped on the stage, and the vibes turned red like his soul, full of passion. Way more folks showed up and went crazy. As the definition of Prevail infers, he proved to be powerful and superior, making the audience forget about a few mic problems and showing the meaning of quality, rhythm and wit. His sound fit perfectly in with a special guest, a 25-year-old rapper from Victoria called Neph, who brought even more energy to the environment and made the crowd jump and dance with his rhymes.
Finally, Prevail killed it with a version of the song “In for the kill” by La Roux. He led the audience in a hip-hop prayer which had everyone bent on one knee to wrap it up. It was very apparent that Canadian hip-hop artists like these are concerned and aware of what is happening in the world right now. Prevail and Kyprios did a great job, and even if the venue was not nearly full, they gave us their message, and were overall natural, amusing and stunning.
