Fresh off of touring Canada with Evil Ebenezer, ILL TONE is back with a new single and a new sound. The new song, “Am I Good Enough?”, bridges the gap between hip hop and EDM. Having teamed up with beatmaker Dylan Sterling, the pair have managed to achieve a unique, powerful sounding style which sounds closer to Glitch Hop than Hip Hop. Although the single is noticeably more electronic than any of Tone’s previous releases, the Vancouver artist brings the same raw lyricism which has propelled him forward in his city’s underground hip hop scene over the past few years.
Lyrically, the song is heavy. Diving in to a past plagued by depression, self doubt, and shattered relationships, ILL TONE doesn’t hesitate to let the listener know where he’s been and where he’s at. The emotion behind what he’s saying is translated clearly on the recording by the MC’s ever-changing, hype delivery which is further fueled by the neck breaking, bass heavy beat behind the vocals.
