Interview: Coors Light Snowbombing Music Festival Event Manager – Daisy Toomer
Interview by: Racquel Villagante
Today I got a chance to steal Coors Light Snowbombing Music Festival’s Event Manager, Daisy Toomer, away from her busy schedule for an interview with Hip Hop Vancouver. The spring alpine festival is taking place this week from Thursday, April 6th to Sunday, April 9th at Sun Peaks Resort in our picturesque province, the one & only, beautiful British Columbia.
How long has the Snowbombing Music Festival been going for?
DB: Snowbombing has been going strong for seventeen years in Austria. This will be the very first time we host the festival here in Canada.
How long has B.C. been on your radar?
DB: The event organizers have been wanting to host the festival in Canada for the last five years, and we’ve been looking at different locations. With the partnership we have had with Coors Light Canada, we were able to make the dream come true.
Why Sun Peaks? What made you choose this resort out of all the others?
DB: Out of the five locations we had our eyes on, Sun Peaks resort had all the elements that we were looking for. It has the beautiful alpine, great skiing and snowboarding, amazing views, a huge open area to host a music festival. It’s ridiculous up here right now. So perfect with enough snow on the mountains for skiing and snowboarding, and it’s sunny t-shirt weather down on the festival grounds.
Sounds like the perfect place for a four-day-and-night party! What are the main events happening this week that you want people to know about?
DB: On Friday from 4:00pm to 9:30pm, we have a street party called the “Lumberjack vs. Lederhosen” street party with Snakehips, The Funk Hunters, Harrison Brome, and DJ Flipout. With the dress-up theme, we wanted to have a theme that combined the Canadian and Austrian cultures together.
Wow! Love all those artists you mentioned! And that theme you have sounds like a fun cultural exchange. What other events or shows do you have lined up?
DB: On Saturday, with have our big headliner, Kaskade, and on Sunday, we have, of course, Ludacris.
Oh Luda will be ridiculous! What other artist names do you want to mention that festival goers can look forward to?
DB: We have Pete Tong, Duke Dumont, Bob Moses. Lots of artists to check out. We also have a snowboarding competition happening up here while the festival is going.
How many people do you expect to see this week at the festival?
DB: We have over 4,000 festival goers we are expecting to arrive up here this week. It’ll probably be closer to 5,000 people over the four days. We’re excited for this first year here at Sun Peaks, and we expect to see the festival grow each year!
