Juicy J at The Commodore (2015)

Live Review: Juicy J
Location: Commodore Ballroom
Written By: Noah Herzog

On May 27th, the Memphis, Tennessee rapper and long time member of “Three 6 Mafia”, Juicy J, had the Commodore Ballroom lit. Most known for his turnup/trap lyrical flow and care-free rich lifestyle, Juicy J has achieved worldwide success, staying current in the top billboards and creating a movement around his genre of music. Performing all of his hits such as “Low”, “Bounce It” and his new song “Already”(ft Rae Sremmurd) it was impossible for the night not to go well.

Prior to the event, news had been going around that the show may be cancelled due to Juicy J being hospitalized for exhaustion. However, all of that plus a injured foot didn’t come close to stopping the turn up god from taking care of business.

Matt Brevner

Matt Brevner kicked the show off playing a short set featuring some new songs. The crowd proceeded to wait another hour in anticipation before Juicy J hit the stage on level 10 and kept it there for the whole night. Right away knocking off hits from his new “Blue Dream And Lean 2” mixtape, he had the place poppin. Because of the obvious party exposure in his music, it took no longer than half an hour to have the venue smoked out on his command and bouncing to the trap flow.

In between songs, Juicy J spent the majority of the time collecting phones that had been thrown on stage from the crowd, and proceeding to post snapchats of himself on the devices before returning them back to the screaming fans. Half way through the show, Juicy J dedicated a solid chunk of the set to playing the old Three 6 Mafia tunes, and the venue definitely responded well to it. Listening to those hits live made everyone “throw back” a bit to the oldies and it just goes to show how long he has been around in the rap game.

All in, the show was amazing. It’s great to see someone who has been making hits for that long stay current and put in work like that. Vancouver responded well to his appearance and I’m sure he will return next year for another round. Shout out to Juicy J.
