Three nights before the controversy that erupted on Thursday over an alleged leak by Def Jam of his ‘Red Friday’ mixtape, rapper YG played two sold out shows at the Vogue Theatre, in support of his Fuck Donald Trump Tour.
An early show was added after the late show quickly sold out. Kamaiyah & RJ opened to a very responsive Vancouver crowd. The fans were familiar with RJ’s track ‘Get Rich’ and both openers were pulling audience members up on to the stage. At one point RJ had 8 girls twerking for the all ages crowd.
BPT began to play as YG strolled on to the red stage. He followed it up with ‘I Just Wanna Party’, ‘Word is Bond’ & ‘Twist My Fingaz’. Two years prior, YG lost his voice and delivered a less than stellar performance at the same venue. He acknowledged his disappointment over the last show and promised to deliver.
The Fuck Donald Trump theme was reinforced throughout the night by all performers. The underage Vancouver crowd showed up, not hesitating to join in on the ‘Fuck Trump’ chants and tossing around a giant beat up Trump doll. After ‘Really Be’ & ‘My Ni$$a’, YG explained to the crowd that he was feeling ‘kind of fucked up’ because some of his entourage were denied at the border. Fortunately, it didn’t effect his performance as he continued through his hits until he had to shut it down to start the second show.
