Boomboxes at the skatepark and super bass headphones with your Walkman. Classic 90’s.
It’s almost impossible to have grown up in that era and somehow missed Chali 2na’s low vocals, The Chemist scratch or the joint Ghetto Diploma.
I still have “A Day At The Races” stuck in my head to this day. These GoodLife veterans mastered the art of originality in emceeing, DJing and putting on an entertaining stage show. Two groups formally known as “Rebels of Rhythm” and “Unity Committee” joined together to assemble Jurassic 5 and the rest is history.

I’d let J5 tell you “What’s Golden” but in this case i’ma have to tell you my guy Akil came thru with the wild golden microphone, breakdancing and slapping 5s to everyone front of stage.
I knew right then and there that they were here to have fun.
Seeing all of them smilin’ on stage dancing, hypin’ each other up I deadass felt like a kid again. Ya feel me? Straight fan boy steez.
The crowd was a mix age between 20-mid 40s and that also put a smile on my face.
Seeing a 40-year-old woman knowing all the words to “high fidelity” was something I’ll never forget.
Numark and Chemist straight had me buggin’.
They pulled up with they own wild inventions.
Numark with a Beat pad body suit and Chemist with a turn table guitar?
Together rocking like a futuristic band from 2156 with wild synthesizer vibes eventually transcended into a very well known Dead Pres hit,
Because what J5 was doing is infact “Bigger Than Hip Hop”.
If you’ve never seen them live I have to tell you this..
They can master a crowd, yo.
The participation and energy turned the ballroom into Jurassic Park and J5 were spittin’ straight venom at the crowd like they were Newman running from a Dilophosaurus.
Seeing them on stage vibing off each others energy you’d never think the crew broke up in 2007. This was pure love for each other and the music.
Do yourself a favor and catch them live sometime you wont regret it.
