This Thursday was not only the start of a long weekend, it was the release party for Brevner’s new self-titled EP at Alexander Gastown (Shout out to DJ’ Sailor Gerry & Cherchez la Femme). Rocking out to a jam packed room, Brevner expressed his intense gratitude to the rowdy crowd of fans, friends and family in attendance. Brevner opened with the mellow and mesmerizing, ‘Chico’ featuring an extended piano intro courtesy of Nico. Within Roots and Stevie Ross were also on hand performing their parts. Brevner’s focus and talent (as if you could’ve missed it) was on full display. After some cuts from the new EP he had some words for Shane before launching into last fall’s ‘Waterloo’.
Brevner’s lyrics give a raw, honest take on things he sees and experiences. A self-proclaimed product of Vancouver’s environment, The new project is “a labour of love and a gift to this city.” With his constant hustle and aim to change the cliches of Vancouver’s sound, Brevner’s EP is everything and more you’d expect from him. Brevner’s talking it, Vancouver’s ’bout it.
