The revered Shambhala Music Festival which takes place on the 500-acre Salmo River Ranch near Nelson, BC is set to embark on it’s 20th year anniversary. The party is scheduled to kick off on Thurs., Aug 10th and extends throughout the weekend until Mon. Aug 14th and features world renowned and local to B.C. artists and DJs playing a wide range of music that seamlessly weaves through such genres as underground electronic beats, House (of all variations), West Coast Bass, Funk, Glitch, Dubstep, Techno, Trap, Footwork, Drum ‘N’ Bass, Jungle, Hip Hop and much more.
Shambhala Music Festival is cutting edge in it’s production and has not accepted any corporate sponsorships thus far during its illustrious 20 year career. Each stage is separately owned and operated by its own crew of owners, staff and volunteers, which allows for an unique visit and experience at each individualized stage.
HipHopVancouver will be once again on site during this years Shambhala Festival and we’ve put together a list of sets we’re excited to check out during our 2nd year in a row capturing and filming this amazing event (formally HHV reporter John Zee was covering Shambhala under the now defunct Spliff Breaks outlet since 2013). We’ve separated our lists by date and stage with hyperlinks to each artist included for further introspection (keeping in mind for first time Shambhala attendee’s, that only 2 stages are open on Thurs., Aug. 10th).
Now of course if you’ve ever been to Shambhala before, you’ll know full well how difficult it can truly be to catch all the shows you want to witness during this incredible weekend. However these are simply just suggestions for artists we are personally looking forward to seeing and by no means are we intentionally neglecting or avoiding any of the other artists we didn’t mention here. This is just a handy guide that we’ve put together to help you see things from our lenses.
We look forward to creating content that hopes to capture the beautiful essence of what this festival truly represents. Shambhala is a yearly celebration of music, art and life, steeped in one of the most beautiful festival venues in the world. HHV is honoured to be included as media and to take part in the 20th year celebration of this magical annual gathering.
